WSBK Yamaha R1 pulls wraps off 2011

Yamaha formally presents Eugene Laverty, Marco Melandri and the R1 it will campaign in the 2011 World Superbike Championship.

Yamaha has officially unveiled the bike it hopes will take back the World Superbike Championship crown in 2011.

With just over a week to go before the start of the new season, Yamaha revealed its colours for 2011 with the most notable change being the lack of a title sponsor, previous backers Sterilgarda having decided not to stay on for this year.

Reverting to a recognisable corporate blue, white and black colour scheme, the look is expected to be similar to that of its World Supersport and MotoGP efforts as well.

Marco Melandri and Eugene Laverty have been charged with challenging for the WSBK title, less than two years after Ben Spies secured the manufacturer's first crown in 2009. The team will also have a new manager in Andrea Dosoli.

The 'finished' R1 will be on track for the second and final WSBK pre-season test at Phillip Island next week, before the season gets underway at the same circuit on 25th February.
